Whale Watching Day Trip to Hermanus
Overview
A full day along the Whale Route to Hermanus to watch southern right whales from the shore, with the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens on the way. Southern right whales come to the Cape to breed and calve, usually from August to November. The drive goes over Sir Lowry's Pass and along the coast through Gordon's Bay, Pringle Bay and Betty's Bay, with a stop at the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens and time in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. In Hermanus you watch from the shore, where the town's whale crier sounds a horn when whales are in the bay, and can visit the Old Harbour Museum. A whale-watching boat trip is optional, and there is a wine tasting on the way. Pickup from your hotel in Cape Town between 08:00 and 09:00, back around 18:00.
